Ivana Filipovich

Ivana Filipovich

In 1999, in addition to being an architect, archaeologist, designer, cartoonist, and occasional procrastinator, I became a literal escapist, selling my beloved black lacquer piano for a one-way ticket to Vancouver just before the NATO bombing of Serbia. I left the country on the last train before the border was closed and the bridges destroyed. After a 20-year hiatus, during which I worked in educational media at a Canadian university, I am returning to cartooning and writing. In the last few years, my comics were published in Sweden, Slovenia, and Serbia and exhibited at the French Institute (L’Institut français) galleries in Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia, and at the NOVA Comic Arts Festival in Serbia. In 2023, Conundrum Press will publish my first graphic novel, while a collection of my short comics “Where have you been?” is available on Amazon. As an artist, I am interested in impactful and psychologically sound storytelling, using strong and diverse characters with a special focus on women.
