David Woodward

David Woodward (b. 1991, Port Hope) is a visual artist based in Tkaronto/Toronto, Canada. Working with found-imagery and photographs, they utilize the medium of collage to find pathways and relationships between seemingly disparate visuals, with the aim of depicting everyday subjects that belie more complex understandings of the exterior world. David’s practice also encompasses zine and print-making, his most recent work being a self-published, risograph zine titled “Stone Fruit” (2023), which considers how things that look soft and beautiful – humans, animals, nature, and queerness – often contain a hard and fossilized but resilient, unseen center. Figures, objects, animals and spaces built from anachronistic fragments of the past serve as containers for exploring ideas of interconnectedness, duality and metamorphosis.
