Andrew McIlvaney

Andrew McIlvaney is a public school teacher and writer in British Columbia. He has taught for 13 years and developed English: Comedy Writing 11 within the BC public school system, leading workshops across the province on comedy writing education. He previously lived in Japan for three years teaching at a BC Offshore School, during which he interviewed renowned mangaka Keiichi Arawi (Nichijou, CITY). In 2023, he began developing the comic project Ms. Frecznik’s Think Tank with illustrator Savannah Goatze under the supervision of Bill Oakley (The Simpsons, Portlandia), who called the work “VERY FUNNY” and described it as one of the best scripts he had read that year. Andrew is currently completing a Master’s degree in Literacy Education at the University of British Columbia, where his research focuses on using comics and comedy to teach critical literacy. He continues to write and storyboard future issues of Ms. Frecznik’s Think Tank.
