Kyle Vingoe-Cram

Kyle Vingoe-Cram is a queer/non-binary cartoonist from K’jipuktuk/Halifax, Nova Scotia, currently residing in Ottawa. Their debut graphic novel, Kettle Harbour, is published by Conundrum Press and premieres on May 9, 2023. The story follows young artist as she reunites with her cousin and his husband in the small Nova Scotia town where they spent formative summers, unearthing pieces of the past and upending their lives. Pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling, Kettle Harbour plays with the reliability of memory and the cascading effects of trauma through bursting geological panels and pools of negative space. Told from interwoven perspectives, each with their own distinct graphic style, Kettle Harbour deftly moves back and forth in time to reveal glimmers of an uncomfortable shared past.

Kyle is also co-creator of a A Rift in the Valley, a graphic novel currently in development with visual artist G H Y Cheung, about what happens when a sinkhole opens up in a small university town in Ontario. While causing minimum physical damage, the sinkhole has an unexpected psychic weight that precipitates a series of strange occurrences in the lives of the town’s residents, including young Brueghel scholar Oliver Leung and his overworked therapist, new parent Ursula MacNeil.
